About Me

I’m Amanda Ostrander! I’m a former elementary school teacher -turned homeschool mom. After a few years of teaching in both public and private schools, I left to start my own family.

In the summer of 2015, I welcomed my first daughter Alexie. A few years later, Zoé joined our family. There came a time when I needed to decide whether I wanted to send my girls to school or not. Having been a teacher, and more specifically, having taught in play-based kindergarten classrooms in Ontario, I decided to homeschool my girls instead.

Originally, my plan was to homeschool kindergarten. But by the time Alexie was done kindergarten, it had become clear to me and my husband (a high school teacher) that we were going to continue homeschooling. We had fallen in love with homeschooling and the lifestyle that it provided our family.

A few years later, and after answering 100s of questions, I decided to start a YouTube channel, as a way to share my knowledge as a teacher and homeschool mom. YouTube allowed me to support parents around Canada and the world by answering questions, reviewing curriculum and giving ideas and advice. Over the years it’s grown to have thousands of subscribers. I’ve written books, done news interviews and recently, launched a podcast. I’ve become one of the top 10 homeschool content creators in Canada and continue to share my educational knowledge with thousands of people every day on various platforms including Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.

When I’m not helping others with their homeschooling questions, I’m teaching my kids, chauffeuring them from class to class and visiting our homeschool friends. I love my morning walks with my faithful homeschool mascot, Mack, our mini-goldendoodle. I also love baking, reading, embroidery, gardening and dancing in my kitchen. And while we love our home in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, I also love travelling and sharing the world with my kids.
